Dartmoor Breathes is an exploration of memory and experience, reflecting my personal connection to Dartmoor’s ever-changing landscape. Rather than depicting a precise scene, this work is an emotional response to the moor—its vast skies, shifting light, and the interplay between solid ground and ephemeral mist.

Dartmoor is a place that feels alive, where weather and light transform the land from moment to moment. The painting embraces that movement, using layered textures and a muted, earthy palette to convey both the wild openness and the fleeting, intimate details that make the landscape so evocative. 

The title, Dartmoor Breathes, speaks to the idea of the land itself as a living presence, pulsing with natural rhythms.

By creating this piece from memory rather than direct reference, I sought to distill the feeling of Dartmoor rather than its exact topography—offering a space for the viewer to connect with their own experiences of nature, solitude, and the passage of time.
