A densely painted view of the River Tamar and its wooded banks. Thick, short marks build water, foliage and reflected light from blues, greens, reds, ochres and white, with little empty surface left between them. The river occupies much of the foreground and carries the eye back into the trees. It is an early work in which observation of the local landscape begins to give way to a more physical use of paint.
